March duty free sales hit $25.5m for Canadian Airports

Canadian airports have posted duty free sales results for March 2014 as $25.5m, an increase of 9.5% on March of the previous year and +$100k on sales recorded during February 2014.
When amalgamated with the recently reported figures for January – February 2014, this takes Canadian airports combined sales for duty free January – March to $74.2m, a YOY improvement of 13.3%.
Land border sales have not fared so well however, with March figures overall -12.8% on March 2013 at $8.6m, and combined results for the period January – March 2014 -8.3% on the previous year.
Looking at each area in closer detail, land border sales across The Atlantic/Quebec region achieved sales of $1.3m in March, down 19.8% compared to March 2013. For January-March 2014 the Atlantic and Quebec regions saw sales peak at $3.6m, a 10% decrease on the previous year.
The Prairie region saw land border sales reach $714,671, down 7.6% on March 2013. For January-March 2014 the total figure is also down 4.2% against the previous year, with sales peaking at $1.9m.
The Pacific region achieved sales of $1.6m, -3.8% on March 2013. For January-March 2014 the Pacific region has seen combined sales decrease by 10.3% to $4.2m.
And finally, The Ontario region achieved the highest sales figures for March 2014 taking $4.8m, however this still represents a decrease of 10% on the previous March. For January-March 2014 Ontario managed $12.5m, representing a 7.8% drop on the same period in 2013.
