Flemingo swoops on Silvio Pettirossi

By Doug Newhouse |

Flemingo International reports it has opened its arrival and departure duty free operation in the new terminal at Silvio Pettirossi Airport, Asuncion.

The retailer won the four-year contract in the capital city’s main airport earlier this year covering core product categories, such as liquor – including wines from Chile, Uruguay and Argentina – plus perfume, cosmetics, confectionery, tobacco and fashion accessories from renowned brands.

Flemingo describes the passenger profile as mainly business oriented, regional passengers (Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina) in addition to customers from the US, Panama and Spain. The city is seeing a significant growth in infrastructure development in the South American Region and this further supports growth in business travellers.

The airport handled 1.2m international passengers last year and is projecting growth of around 17% in 2014.

The retailer says that the new stores follow similar retail design and layout to Flemingo’s Brazilian stores, with ‘an impressive entrance’ creating an inviting atmosphere for passengers, strong signage and a clear walk-way aimed at creating an ‘easy to shop’ environment.

EXPANDED LATIN FOOTPRINT

It adds that clear routes through to the back walls have been designed to bring customers into the heart of each zone and pass through each category.

Simon Forde, Group COO commented: “Flemingo is delighted to open our first store in Silvio Pettirossi Airport in Paraguay. This further extends our footprint in Latin America, a key strategic focus for the group. I would like to thank Pablo Lesme, Country Manager and his team for such a great job in opening the shops, and wish them much success in the future.”

A spokesperson from the DINAC airport authority added: “The DINAC welcomes Flemingo at the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport and is glad to be associated with a world-class company with operations in major international airports in the world.”
