HKIA releases tender details for 35 boutiques

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is advertising “an exceptional business opportunity” for global luxury brand retailers in its Registration of Interest (ROI) document that it published, last week, for 35 luxury branded boutiques.
HKIA says it is seeking interest for 35 boutiques, ranging from 34sq m to 245sq m, located in Terminal 1 at Hong Kong International Airport Level 6, Departures East Hall.
The Airport specifies in its tender details that it is looking for “internationally renowned luxury brands” in a range of categories including: leather goods and accessories, ready-to-wear, timepieces and high-end jewellery, Chinese gold, and fine food.

HKIA reported a busy month in April 2013 with across-the-board increases in traffic volume. Passenger trips and flight movements continued their upward trajectories, recording year-on-year growth of 1.1% and 5.1% to 4.9m and 30,530 respectively.
56.5M PASSENGERS IN 2012
HKIA was keen to emphasise that it is “one of the world’s busiest passenger airports, welcoming a record-breaking 56.5m passengers in 2012 – representing an annual growth of 4.7%.”
According to the Consumers Shopping and Dining Behavior Tracking Survey November 2012 – conducted by Cimigo Ltd – HKIA says that international passengers have “unrivalled spending power” with Asian visitors (57%) dominating the high spending passengers at East Hall. The top three markets are Mainland China (20%), Taiwan (17%), and South & Southeast Asia (14%).
“Average monthly personal income of East Hall passengers is HK$39,000, and up to 50% of them are executives, professionals, and proprietary owners,” says HKIA.
“Passengers spend an average of 4 hours at HKIA, presenting a large opportunity to capture luxury sales.”
SHOPPING SURVEYS
HKIA’s Luxury Shopping Survey which was conducted in December 2012 by Cimigo Limited found that 70% of shoppers consider HKIA to have a comprehensive range of brands, and 80% of them consider HKIA having a comfortable shopping environment.
“88% of shoppers make impulse purchases, and their top three reasons to shop in HKIA are to kill time, search for exclusive / special luxury brand items, and save time by shopping at HKIA where luxury brands are clustered together,” adds the airport authority.
