Furla opens Sydney corner with LSTR

By Kevin Rozario |

Italian leather goods house Furla has opened a personalised corner at Sydney International Airport in the Podium multi-brand fashion store.

Podium, located in the terminal one departure area, is operated by LS Travel Retail ASPAC, the Asia duty free and travel retail division of France’s Lagardère Services. It focuses on mainly European brands including Ermenegildo Zegna, Salvatore Ferragamo, Hugo Boss and Porsche Design – but is also the first airport store in the world to showcase Camilla, an Australian designer brand renowned for luxurious resort wear.

Furla joins this line-up with a 15sq m branded shop-in-shop featuring ready-to-wear collections and accessories for men and women, plus travel accessories and luxurious gift ideas. The location will also sell what Furla calls its “iconic collections” such as Candy and Piper Lux.

Furla’s Global Travel Retail Director, Gerry Munday. says: “Our travel retail business is forever growing and this is yet another great opportunity to gain further exposure. We have outlets in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Cairns and Sydney. The Sydney Airport corner is the first with (our) new concept layout for Australian travel retail.”

Last year, Furla’s DF&TR business grew by +93% on the back of new openings, while the company’s overall reported turnover of €212m ($284m) was up +18% on 2011. EBITDA reached 15%, equal to €32m.

Today Furla is present in 71 countries with five subsidiaries in France, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and the US. Some 80% of distribution is retail with 320 mono-brand stores (156 Furla boutiques and 164 authorised retailers); and 20% via wholesale through 1,290 multi-brand and department stores.
