DFS Singapore features fashion winners

By Doug Newhouse |

DFS Galleria Singapore is featuring some Audi Star Creation (ASC) 2013 winners’ fashion collections for customers as part of its commitment towards Asian talent.

DFS Customers are to get an insight into a ‘multi-‐faceted shopping experience’ that DFS says goes ‘beyond product offerings and exceptional service’, offering a glimpse into Asia’s lively and vibrant fashion design scene.

The world’s leading travel retailer says it also hopes to raise the profiles of some of these young designers in both local and global markets by providing a stage for their talent and work, while also creating an interesting and enlightening shopping experience for the store’s many foreign visitors. These designs will be displayed on the fourth floor of the DFS Scottswalk store until 31 July 2013.

DFS explains that Audi Star Creation is an Asia‐wide fashion design competition that promotes and develops emerging Asian fashion talents. Now into its fourth year, the competition was first held in 2010, as part of the inaugural Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX). It is spearheaded by the Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore (TaFf), title-‐sponsored by Audi Singapore, and supported by leading local fashion company FJ Benjamin.

ENCOURAGING YOUNG FASHION DESIGNERS…

Craig McKenna, Managing Director of DFS Venture Singapore Pte Ltd, said: “There is an abundance of young talent in Asia and we endeavour to encourage their creativity in whatever way we can. Having these collections showcased in Scottswalk is our way of supporting these young designers and providing them with a platform to have their designs seen by the many thousands of customers who visit our store.”

InspiAsian apparently served as the theme of this year’s competition, with participants each creating a six-‐piece collection of original or previously unreleased works representing the modern Asian aesthetic. Twelve participants from Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore took part in the competition for the three top spots.

DFS reports that the winning designers were Sun Yi Jin (China), Vu Tan Linh (Vietnam) and Haziq Putra (Singapore). They were each awarded S$10,000 in cash, a one-year internship at FJ Benjamin, and the privilege of being mentored by Co-Creative Directors of RAOUL, Douglas and Odile Benjamin, while creating their first capsule collections to be shown at ASC 2014.

Haziq Putra also won the coveted Audi Young Designer Award, which is presented to the designer deemed to have best embodied the Audi design spirit of innovation, technology and progression.

The DFS Galleria Singapore is one of the 14 downtown Gallerias by DFS Group (DFS) worldwide that will be changing its name at the end of this year, as well as its shop frontage design and logo typeface.
