Singapore Changi Airport’s passenger numbers rose by 4% to 4.54m in July 2013 and by 4.9% to 30.8m between January and July 2013.
Traffic movements rose 6.9% to 29,000 landings and take-offs in July, while the Changi Airport Group also reports ‘strong demand’ for air travel to and from Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Southwest Pacific and the Middle East in July. There were also double-digit increases between some of the airport’s top 10 city destinations, including routes serving Bali-Denpasar, Sydney, Taipei and Tokyo.
New retail and F&B outlets opening operations in the transit areas of Changi Airport’s T1 and T2 include Gold jewellers Luvenus (opening a second store in T1), while the oriental-themed lifestyle boutique Madame Butterfly reinforced its presence in T2 – its third store at Changi. Additionally, classic curry puff specialists Tip Top and the popular donut chain, Dunkin’ Donuts, have each opened outlets in T2’s Departure Transit Mall.
NEW ROUTES AND SERVICES
Other “highlights at Changi” include an agreement between Singapore and Indonesia to expand air links between the two countries and several airlines have started – or increased – the number of weekly services to Indonesian cities in July.
AirAsia has also launched four weekly services to Makassar and a new daily service to Surabaya. SilkAir started three weekly services to Semarang and Tigerair has introduced a new daily service to Yogyakarta. Garuda Indonesia has added four weekly services each to Bali-Denpasar and Surabaya – a new route for the airline.
SilkAir also added three weekly services on the Singapore-Medan route, while Singapore Airlines added a daily service each to Bali-Denpasar and Jakarta. It also launched a daily service to Surabaya.
As of 1 August 2013, more than 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to 250 cities in some 60 countries and territories worldwide.
