Kiehl’s new Hong Kong look

By Doug Newhouse |

Kiehl’s Since 1851 has benefited from its new look with DFS Group at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1 since reopening last July.

The iconic New York City-based apothecary and creator of skin and hair care originally opened for business with a 24sq m store when Nuance-Watson held the beauty concession back in  2008. At that time this was also the first Kiehl’s store in Asia Pacific travel retail..

But the brandowner says that after five years it was time for a makeover and a brand new shopping experience.

As a result, Kiehl’s prepared a series of activities for its loyal fans, including the opening ceremony, a New York Broadway dance performance, plus roving caricature activity and free sampling.

VIP OPENING CEREMONY

Ms. Eva Yu, Managing Director of L’Oréal Luxe Travel Retail Asia Pacific, Ms. Renee Chisolm, HKIA General Manager in Beauty of DFS Group and Ms. Cheng Hsiao-Wei, Merchandising Manager of DFS Group held the ribbon cutting ceremony on July 19 in front of 100 passengers.

Kiehl’s invited a group of dancers to perform a Broadway dance, along with a caricature artist to offer customers with personalized drawing during the event.

The company said: “As with all Kiehl’s stores, the airport boutique proudly continued Kiehl’s unique “try before you buy” sampling initiative and unsurpassed customer service. In the opening month, a capsule vending machine was set up at the shop for sample redemptions.

“Welcome kits with samples were offered to customers as well, to encourage them receiving consultation according to their individual skin and hair needs. The event obtained excellent sales results: sell out in opening month (July) was 11% higher versus same period last year.”
