APTRA to invest in further research

By Charlotte Turner |

At a meeting in Cannes, at the TFWA World Exhibition, the members of the board of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) set out their principal objectives for the coming months.

In response to a survey of members about their priorities, it was decided to focus energy on four key areas: advocacy, research, responsible retailing and improving liaison between stakeholders.

“APTRA will continue to commit a substantial proportion of its resources to advocacy in order to support and protect the interests of the duty free and travel retail industry in the Asia Pacific region,” says APTRA.

It believes this is of great importance, in the face of challenges, which threaten the future viability of high footfall driving categories such as tobacco, wines and spirits.

BUILDING AWARENESS

APTRA will also build awareness of the association and its work in key markets, including China and Japan, and, in so doing, bring the members of APTRA into contact with key stakeholders.

In addition to the regular research reports available to members on the APTRA website – such as the Generation Index and the Asia Pacific Consumer Insights Update – APTRA has committed to invest in further research in 2014.

In order to ensure that the APTRA research programme continues to address issues of greatest concern to members, each company will be given the opportunity to nominate themes for future research through an online survey.

Disseminating the findings of the latest independent research into consumer behaviour, travel and retail patterns in Asia Pacific will be the primary objective of the APTRA KPMG Roadshow Seminar programme, which launches in Singapore in November “with the generous support of Estée Lauder, Inc,” says APTRA.

“All duty free and travel retail stakeholders interested in registration or further information about the Retail Roadshow – which includes seminars in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok between 12th and 22nd November 2013 – are invited to consult the website www.aptra.asia,” it adds.
