JR/Duty Free begins Perth DF contract

By Doug Newhouse |

Perth Airport Pty Ltd reports today that JR/Duty Free has begun trading from its new duty free outlet at Terminal 1 (T1) this month.

This follows last November’s announcement that the James Richardson Group-owned retailer had won the 10-year, two month concession at Perth’s International Terminal, following what the airport described as ‘very high quality proposals’ in what was a competitive tender process [http://www.trbusiness.com/index.php/regional/asia/12218-jrduty-free-wins-perth-concession.html].

Commenting today on the takeover of the duty free airport business from the Nuance Group, Brad Geatches, Perth Airport CEO said: “We looked for a company that could deliver innovative and contemporary stores that would provide a superior customer experience, and JR has achieved that with all of their stores, starting with the new arrivals duty free store.”

“The new and expanded arrivals duty free store is a significant component of the first phase in the transformation of the international arrivals journey at T1,” he said.

SIGNIFICANT GROWTH POTENTIAL

At the same time, Milton Lasnitzki, JR/Duty Free CEO congratulated Perth Airport on the upcoming opening of its new arrivals store: “We have worked closely with Perth Airport management to get to this point and we now look forward to engaging with the passengers who enter our exciting new store,” he said.

“The potential for opportunity and growth at Perth Airport is significant and the new arrivals store is just the beginning,” he added.

The business being taken over by JR/Duty Free also comprises two departure duty free stores with a 300sq m outlet on level 1 prior to security screening and an 827sq m outlet on level 2 for passengers waiting to board their flight. Perth Airport management says these will be completely refurbished over the next three to four months.

JR/Duty Free says that these stores will allow it to offer an increasingly diverse range of products, from luxury brands and designer fashion to an extensive range of beauty, fragrance, electronics, watches, liquor and confectionary – plus West Australian premium wines.

JR is an experienced operator with 15 stores in Australia, New Zealand, Israel and Tahiti and we are pleased to welcome them to Perth,” said Geatches, who generously added: “I would also like to acknowledge the strong partnership Perth Airport has had with The Nuance Group, operators of F1RST Duty Free and thank Philippe Boyer and his team for more than 20 years of service,” he said.
