Jakarta to tender three T2 shops
By David Hayes |
Jakarta Airport’s PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II has confirmed it is to tender two Plaza Bali shops and one DFS/IDP outlet in Terminal 2 shortly.
The state-owned authority which operates the country’s airports in Jakarta and western Indonesia has not yet announced the tender details and it is still unknown whether the three Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport concessions will be tendered separately or not [DFS operates its shops at Jakarta in a joint venture with IDP].
The duty free tenders are expected to generate strong interest as passenger numbers rise at Jakarta Airport and there is growing foreign operator interest in the airport’s duty free retail potential. According to Angkasa Pura II some 60m passengers used Jakarta Airport in 2013, with around 7m on international flights. Around 60% of these were also religious pilgrims travelling to Mecca.
The growth in Mainland Chinese visitors to Indonesia is driving duty free sales growth in Jakarta Airport. Apart from religious pilgrims, most international passengers using Jakarta Airport are businessmen and Jakarta residents travelling overseas.
MUCH UPGRADED FACILITIES
Duty free facilities in Jakarta Airport have been upgraded since the arrival of Lotte Duty Free in January 2012. The operator opened two duty free shops selling perfume and cosmetics, liquor and tobacco, fashion goods, watches, confectionery and gifts in a joint venture with local partner, PT SJ-Indonesia.
Most of the duty free shops in Jakarta Airport T2 – including outlets operated by Plaza Bali, DFS and Lotte – are located on the passenger concourse connecting flight gate areas D and E.
