World’s first fully electronic, chainless bike lands at Capi

Capi, The Travellers Electronics Company, is launching the new Korean-built, foldable, Mando Footloose e-bike in its stores at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Introduction and promotion of the Korean-built foldable electronic bike in the Netherlands will start at Capi stores in the third week of March 2014 and will last approximately eight weeks.

“This unique bike offers a new kind of e-mobility and combines freedom of movement with high-end automotive technology,” says Capi. The bike, priced at € 3,990.00, will also be available through the Home Delivery service for a full year.

According to the electronics retailer, the Mando Footloose bike is the world’s first chainless e-bike which is foldable as well. The bike, made of lightweight aluminium, offers a ‘hybrid form of travel’ – the energy generated by pedalling is directly transformed into electricity by a generator, and supports the motor with that energy, without any chains.

‘AWARD-WINNING’

The e-bike has already won the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award. “The electronic control system enables a secure ride and detects resistance due to slope or wind and automatically shifts gear, giving the feeling of riding on level ground,” adds Capi.

Jeff Chang, General Manager Halla Meister Europe bv, says: “We chose Capi to kick-off the introduction of this new bike in the Netherlands because of their unique location and their background in successfully bringing innovative products to an international audience.”

Mando Footloose is being introduced at Capi stores first, before the bike becomes available at high-street department stores. “Large-scale promotions will be initiated to make this Dutch introduction at Capi stores on Amsterdam Airport Schiphol a success,” says Capi.

Capi’s flagship store in Lounge 1 will be Mando-themed, featuring various large in-store Mando presentations, posters and gate sleeves. Just outside Capi’s Lounge 1 shop, the counter store operated by Capi will be turned into an ‘experience store’.

TEST RIDES

Travellers will be given the opportunity to take a Mando bike for a test ride and try out all the features. Test rides are also possible at Capi’s landside store at Schiphol Plaza, where there are also significant in-store promotions.

In collaboration with Schiphol Media, a substantial advertising campaign will also be launched. In the public shopping area of the airport, large TV screens will show adverts for the Mando Footloose and where to buy it. Besides this, at check-in counters, leaflets advertise the e-bike and Capi’s locations.

Peter Wiggers, Managing Director of Royal Capi-Lux, says: “We are pleased to partner with manufacturer Halla Meister Europe bv to introduce this novelty to The Netherlands. Capi aims to provide travellers with innovative and inspiring products and the Mando Footloose is a great example of this. The e-bike with its pioneering technology and award-winning design will delight a biking nation such as the Dutch as well as our international customers.”
