Friday cut-off for Tirana tender EOIs

By Kevin Rozario |

Albania’s main airport, Tirana International (TIA) is tendering a series of retail, and food and beverage units, as well as its business lounge facility, with all enquiries and expressions of interest expected by this Friday (25 April).

The retail units consist of five shops with a total area of 158sq m and the following suggested product categories: jewellery/accessories; watches; sunglasses; toys; Albanian products and other concepts (for example bags, apparel etc).

On the F&B side, four units are available with a much larger total area of 1,200sq m. The airport says that required concepts include: a full- service restaurant offering hot food (Albanian and international); and three café/bar concepts with a snack and/or bakery offer.

The 280sq m business lounge is also up for bids but interested parties must also bid for one of the two airside F&B outlets as well.

TENANT REQUIREMENTS

Prospective partners must have proof of at least three years of substantial relevant experience in the type of business for which they are bidding; information must be provided on similar current activities (for example number, size and location of outlets, years of operation, annual turnover in the last three years etc); as well as financial declarations and correct legal representation. Passenger numbers at TIA rose by +5.5% to 1.76m in 2013 from 1.67m in 2012, despite the bankruptcy of the main local carrier BelleAir. Aircraft traffic movements were down -2.9% on 2012, and cargo fell by -4.2%. Currently, 13 airlines fly in to and out of TIA, connecting the Albanian capital directly with 20 destinations.

In 2013, the airlines carrying most passengers to and from Tirana were Belle Air (46.7%), Air One (10.9%), Alitalia (9.0%), Austrian Airlines (8.2%) and Turkish Airlines (6.9%). After the collapse of BelleAir, three airlines have been added: Blue Panorama, Livingston and Meridiana Airlines which all chiefly fly to destinations in Italy.
