Prime pharmacy and jewellery units available at Edinburgh Airport for 2015

Edinburgh Airport is offering two prime retail units in its departure lounge for a pharmacy operation and jewellery and watches retailer, for summer 2015.

 

As previously reported, Edinburgh Airport is investing £25m in a significant expansion of the airport’s terminal building, creating the foundations of the airport’s ambitious growth plans and providing passengers with more space, a new state of the art security area and the airport’s first ever walk through store (to open in 2015).

 

The new 6000m2 facility will be built around a larger security area that will allow passengers to move through that part of the airport ‘faster and more efficiently’. There will also be new retail areas and a brand new airline business centre.

 

The new units to open next summer, located in the airport’s international departure lounge, offer vendors the chance to be part of a wider anchor retail offering located directly in front of passengers as they enter the departure lounge.

 

 

RETAIL SPACE TO INCREASE BY 45%

John Watson, Chief Commercial Officer at Edinburgh Airport, said “We’re undergoing a period of massive change at Edinburgh Airport and are increasing our retail space by 45% in 2015. We’ve identified some amazing new opportunities, which are in ideal locations in our departure lounge.

 

“We’re excited to welcome new retailers to Edinburgh Airport and are confident these units will provide the right business partner with a footprint on which they can deliver a leading edge flagship store.”

 

Retailers have until the end of Q1 in 2015 to register their interest and more information is available on the airport’s retail website, retailopportunities.edinburghairport.com.

 

All competitive bids will be completed by mid-2015 with the first phase of the new development to open in Q3. Edinburgh Airport is the fifth largest airport in the UK, in terms of passenger numbers, and, according to the operator, has one of the highest proportions of business travellers outside London Heathrow.

 

NEW LONG AND SHORT-HAUL ROUTES

The airport, which is undergoing rapid expansion and recently became the first in Scotland to exceed the 10m yearly passenger mark, has enjoyed its most successful year on record with the launch of a number of new long and short-haul routes in 2014.

 

Passengers can now travel to Doha with Qatar Airways, Chicago with United Airlines and Philadelphia with US Airways. It was also announced in July that Etihad Airways will launch its first Scottish route to Abu Dhabi from Edinburgh in June 2015.

 

For pharmacy and healthcare, the merchandise mix should include essential pharmaceutical, health and beauty products. The jewellery and watch category is considered to be a key category that will form part of the anchor for our speciality retail proposition. The merchandise mix in this category should include fine jewellery and mid to high end watches for men and women.

 

The Pharmacy and healthcare concession will be located at Unit R153b covering 257.4sq m. The shop-front opening is 17.5m and internally the shop is 17.5m at the widest point. The internal depth is 12.5m and the overall area up to front edge of demise (i.e. interface with concourse) is 257.4sq m.

 

100% EXPOSURE TO DEPARTING PASSENGERS

Jewellery and watch concession is located at Unit R164a covering 90sq m and is exposed to 100% of Edinburgh Airports departing passengers, says EDI.

 

The clear shop-front opening is 15.1m and inside the shop is 11.3m at the widest point. The internal depth is 8.9m and the overall area up to front edge of demise (i.e. interface with concourse) is 95.5sq m.
