LS Travel Retail JV to run F&B business at Iceland’s Keflavik

By Kevin Rozario |

LS Travel Retail has been awarded the Food & Beverages concession at Iceland Keflavik International Airport (KEF) by operator Isavia.

LSTR, part of Lagardère Services [a division of French media giant Lagardère Group] will manage the departure lounge concession – which consists of five outlets – in joint venture with NQ, an Icelandic operator already present in KEF.

The JV will be headed up by Sigurður Skagfjörð Sigurðsson (left), who has several years of experience in Icelandic retail and catering, and who was a former Ancillary Revenue Project Manager at Icelandair.

About the appointment, LSTR says: “By appointing M. Sigurðsson, LS Travel Retail remains true to its strategy of maintaining a decentralised culture, and relying on local teams who are very competent and have strong decision-making power.”

Vincent Romet (right), Chief Operating Officer of LS Travel Retail EMEA, says: “This success is the result of our strategy of developing jointly our three businesses – Travel Essentials, Duty Free and Luxury, and Foodservice. It enables us to maximise our chances to penetrate new territories, by means of one of these three segments.”

FIVE OUTLETS

The five outlets consist of a free-flow self-service concept, providing local and international products in all categories; a Segafredo Zanetti café offering coffees, beverages, ice-creams and savoury snacks in a lounge atmosphere; a local Iceland bar selling beers, beverages and snacks, in an environment with a strong sense of place; a 100% tailor-made bar-kitchen concept; and a gourmet store offering local products. Food and beverages will be prepared using Icelandic ingredients, says LSTR.

Keflavik Airport (KEF) is the main gateway into Iceland and processed 2.8m passengers in 2013, up +16% on 2012.
