Air France-KLM: duty free delivery on arrival is coming

By Kevin Rozario |

Alexandre de Juniac (below), the Chairman and CEO of merged airline giant, Air France-KLM, said today that the inflight duty free business was under review and that there was the possibility that the carrier might develop a system of ordering goods on the plane with delivery on arrival.

In response to a question at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes about the value of having inflight shopping at the airline, which has 115 international destinations, the CEO told the audience: “We have captive consumers onboard. Maybe we can change the model by not distributing the goods on the plane but delivering them on the ground on arrival,” he said.

“We would do that via the IFE (inflight entertainment system) and need reliable Internet connectivity between the air and ground. It is something that could happen within five years probably.”
