Nuance claims ‘Indian first’ by taking duty free retailing online at Bengaluru Airport (BLR)

By Kevin Rozario |

Passengers over 18 using Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) in Bengaluru can now pre-order online – on departure or arrival – thanks to a new service from Nuance India, which is the duty free and travel retail operator at the south Indian gateway.

According to Nuance – part of the Dufry Group – this is the first time in India that travellers can shop duty-free at their convenience online.

All products available at the duty-free stores will be shown at www.bengalurudutyfree.in (home page pictured) including spirits and wines, accessories and chocolates. At present, the service is only available for the outlet at BLR.

PRE-ORDER ON DEPARTURE

The pre-ordering service online also gives users discounts and promotions that are available upon purchase through the web. Nuance India says it has introduced the service to cater to busy, tech-savvy passengers, who constitute the majority of international passengers at BLR which is the fourth busiest airport in India with 12.87m passengers in 2013.

The service gives travellers the opportunity to plan purchases prior to their journey and collect them at the airport after clearing security upon showing their passport.

The shopping portal can be accessed by passengers over the age of 18 from a number of devices including laptops, desktops, smartphones and tablets.

PICK-UP ON ARRIVAL TOO

Anirban Dutta Chowdhury (left), Country Head, Nuance India comments: “Today, technology is at everyone’s fingertips and we, at Nuance, recognise this and are offering travellers the ease of shopping as they are in transit to the airport. This initiative will not only save time for the travellers, but also brings exciting offers, discounts and the widest range of liquor, perfumes & cosmetics, confectionery and electronics, online at our website.”

He adds: “If you missed out the pre-booking while leaving the country, you can still do so before boarding your flight back to Bengaluru and collect your purchases after your travel upon arrival. The ease and comfort of shopping doesn’t get better than this.”

GV Sanjay Reddy, Managing Director at Bangalore International Airport Limited, says: “We are committed to elevating the experience of passengers at every touch point and the web has opened up numerous opportunities for engagement. Our success is dependent on the efforts of our partners and I must commend Nuance India for this initiative. Bangalore is known for its technology prowess and it is fitting that this service is launched here for the first time in India.”
