Rihanna for MAC Viva Glam 2014

By Charlotte Turner |

As previously reported via TRBusiness.com’s twitter feed (@TRBusiness), Barbados-born singer Rihanna has been selected by MAC cosmetics as the new spokeswoman for its Viva Glam campaign raising funds for its MAC AIDS Fund (MAF).

In February MAC announced it would collaborate with the global mega star for four colour cosmetics collections – including the Fall collection available from the 1 October – and the holiday collection, which is due to drop in December.

Rihanna’s fall collection, available for a limited time, consists of two eyeshadow quads, four lipsticks, a lipglass in a ‘cool red cream’, Pro Longwear lip pencil, Gigablack mascara, Liquidlast liner, brow liner, powder blush duo, powder blush, cream colour base, two sets of false lashes and two brushes.

Products are encased in a ‘rose gold’ packaging. “Lipstick in deep raisin, orange frost, creamy nude and the vivid red of RiRi Woo match gleaming Lipglass, while eyes in contrasting soft and smoky cocoas complement luminous skin highlighted with Diamonds Cream Colour Base and Powder Blush in Bad Girl Gone Good,” says MAC.

100% PROCEEDS TO MAF

The products launched through the Viva Glam campaign (historically this has included a ‘signature lipstick’ and accompanying lip gloss) will be available globally from January 2014, with 100% of the sales going to the MAC AIDS fund, which has raised more than $300m to date.

“In 1994, with the prevalence of AIDS exponentially spreading across the globe, MAC’s co-founders searched for a way to respond to the epidemic,” says the brand.

“The untimely death of Frank Angelo in 1997 set the stage for a new chapter in MAC’s history. In 1998 Estée Lauder Companies acquired the remaining shares of the company, and John Demsey was named president of MAC. Under his leadership, the link between fashion, beauty and culture has strengthened, allowing MAC to stay on the cutting edge.”

According to MAC, Demsey has been instrumental in initiating collaborations with celebrities such as Linda Evangelista, Liza Minnelli, Pamela Anderson, Catherine Deneuve and others, and to endorse the MAC VIVA GLAM and Beauty Icon programs.
