Asbach wins big IWSC prestige award

By Doug Newhouse |

The much-respected IWSC organisation awarded Asbach with the prestige “Worldwide Brandy Trophy“ at London’s Guildhall last week.

The International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) is one of the most respected competitions in the industry of its type and this award was made in front of approximately 500 leading industry guests.

These included IWSC President and Brown-Forman Chairman Garvin Brown IV, IWSC Vice-President and their Royal Highnesses Michael Prince of Salm-Salm and Prince Robert of Luxembourg.

Christiane Underberg accepted the top award for Asbach, together with the Managing Director of Asbach and first cellar master of the house Christopher Dellee.

The company said: “With this internationally renowned prize, the Asbach Privatbrand, aged for 8 years, is now decorated with the ‘Gold Outstanding’ medal. Rightly so: the famous German specialty from Rüdesheim on the Rhine came out as the winner in its category amidst 104 other brandies from Germany, South Africa and Spain”.

MEETING STRICT QUALITY CRITERIA

The company says that Asbach won the award after its brandy met all the criteria within the framework of the strictly controlled two-stage system of evaluation, involving both blind tastings and technical analysis.

It adds that the product was able to speak for itself in convincing the international expert jury of its “delightful balance of youth and maturity” and excellent quality.

Not that this is the only award won by the company this year. Back in the spring of 2013 the eight-year-old Asbach Privatbrand already proved its worth with the World Spirits Award’s jury.

The company said this was awarded the gold medal due to its “distinct quality, the typicality of its distinct fruity aroma and full-of-age taste and finally due to its wonderful long after taste.

In this instance, the very experienced international tasting jury evaluated 430 entries from 30 countries in all, utilising the WOB-100 point evaluation system, which is especially tailored for liquor and said to deliver guaranteed objective evaluation.

The Asbach company says it is “proud and also very pleased” that the pursuit for first-class quality and outstanding taste is still rewarded by these top-class awards.
