Desigual creates exclusive bags for duty free

By Kevin Rozario |

Desigual will unveil its first collection of exclusive bags for travel retail under the banner: Travelling La Vida es Chula, at the TFWA show in Cannes. La Vida es Chula (Life is Cool) is the Spanish fashion brand’s slogan.

The collection includes three styles with different patterns, representing a reinterpretation of the company’s distinctive geometric shapes, with a brown base colour combined with ecru and orange symbolising sandy beaches and sunsets.

Also on show will be the new women’s Spring-Summer 2015 collection: Say Something Nice! It is described as a ‘Happy Casual’ concept and characterised by fun, comfortable, easy-to-wear pieces.

The Spanish fashion brand embarked on its international expansion in DF&TR in 2011 and now has 170 points of sale. Desigual’s latest key openings were Barcelona, Madrid and Lanzarote in Spain; Venice in Italy; Pittsburgh in the US; and São Paulo in Brazil.

ASIAN AND LATIN EXPANSION

The company’s priorities for the forthcoming year will be expansion in Asia and South America plus consolidation in the European mainland and North America. Forthcoming openings in the US include Las Vegas, Miami, New York, Dallas and Orlando.

Desigual currently operates in 109 countries, with 450 retail stores, 11,000 multi-brand stores and 2,500 corner concessions in department stores. In the first half of 2014, the fashion house sold over 15m items through its various retail channels worldwide.
