Unearthing Metaxa Angels’ Treasure at TFWA

By Caroline Sargent |

From the darkened cellars of Attica, Greece comes a new luxury spirit from Rémy Cointreau GTR: Metaxa Angels’ Treasure, an intensely aromatic aged wine blend, will be unveiled this month at TFWA World Exhibition.

Derived from the term ‘Angels’ share’ – used in the world of fine aged spirits to describe the portion of a spirit that is lost to evaporation during the aging process in oak casks – the Metaxa Cellar Masters christened their latest release ‘Angels’ treasure’, after their more commonly used version of the term.

Created by Metaxa Master Constantinos Raptis, Metaxa Angels’ Treasure (41% ABV) is a blend of aged Muscat wines from the Aegean islands and meticulously selected, exquisite aged wine distillates which have been left to mature in French Limousin oak casks for decades.

Intensely aromatic with a deep sweet perfume on the nose, it offers fragrances of bitter orange peel, dried fruit, sweet spices, chocolate, oak and toffee. On the palate it is velvety, silky and complex with notes of citrus fruits, especially bitter orange, peppers, bitter chocolate, tobacco and fine oak with an intense finish and a long after-taste.

“Metaxa Angels’ Treasure is a creation of unparalleled concentration and aromatic intensity,” comments Raptis. “The taste gives intense pleasure with subtle smoothness. Its aromas are complex and the long after-taste is one of harmony and serenity. It is best enjoyed neat or with a little ice.”

Presented in a beautifully crafted, clear glass 70cl decanter – representing the curves of angels’ wings – within a dark brown gift box, Metaxa Angels’ Treasure will be offered exclusively in selected global travel retail outlets during March 2015 at a recommended price of €130, before going on general release through premium liquor stores worldwide from April.
