The Apprentice takes to the skies with Stylfile

By Caroline Sargent |

Three years on from his victory on BBC One’s The Apprentice, inventor Tom Pellereau has proved himself worthy of Sir Alan Sugar’s investment with his Stylfile business continuing its upwards trajectory, following inflight listings with Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook.

The uniquely shaped S-file is designed to follow the nails’ natural shape, making it easy to tidy the nail whichever hand is used. The board is two-sided with one surface to shape and the other to smooth, for the ultimate professional finish.

The S-buffer also follows the nail bed’s natural curve and creates sparkling, healthy looking nails without the need for varnish in four easy steps. Included in the handy travel pouch is a mini file, perfect for emergency nail repairs, which comes with a spiral case preventing accidental scratches of delicate items such as mobile phones and glasses while being carried.

The original AV21 Stylfile pouch was developed in conjunction with Thomson Airways, who approached Pellereau in 2012 after his win on the long-running entrepreneurial television series in 2011.

The company has since developed similar products for other carriers, including an ultra-glamourous set embellished with pink rhinestones and leopard print for Thomas Cook.

Both products were on display at the Market Place exhibition during this month’s OMG! Conference & Awards, hosted by Alpha LSG – the retail, catering and logistics joint venture – for Thomson Airways cabin crew and management.

“It’s really nice working with Alpha LSG, working with the buyers and talking about what we can develop especially for them. We are the only curved file – you’ve got a curved nail, why not have a curved file that follows the natural shape, especially when you’re trying to do the nails on your other hand? We’ve got a niche and we’re doing all right. One day we’ll branch into other areas.”

Asked for his opinions on the potential of the inflight market he is sanguine: “When we go travelling we are open to new things maybe a bit more, and when we’re going away on holiday we’re more intrigued by something new. We also have different needs when we’re travelling so travel is a fascinating area.

“If you can make nice little items for when you’re on the beach or skiing, say, and you have the time to put good adverts together for the catalogue to entertain and interact…and doing events like this and being able to talk directly to the cabin crew is great. It’s nice to have the chance to thank them because we’re doing really well.”
