Bahrain Duty Free revamps its retail

By Charlotte Turner |

Over the past week, Bahrain Duty Free has seen a number of changes at its outlets in the departures area of Bahrain International Airport.

It has relocated its book store, toys and electronics to a new location which it says enjoys ‘strong footfall’ and will consequentially will enjoy increased penetration.

These moves along with other initiatives have cleared approximately 420sq m of retail space for a new fashion area that is scheduled to commence operations in September.

The area will house a number of brands including Lacoste, Hackett, Vilebrequin, Ralph Lauren, Porsche Design, Tumi, Fendi, ST Dupont, Furla, Longchamp, and Lanvin, in addition to other brands that are still under negotiations.  It will also be home to a new sunglasses store catering for all brands; including some brands currently not listed.

Bahrain Duty Free General Manager Fadi Allam stated “We are extremely excited about this initiatives which we believe will offer our customers new brands with the great service that Bahrain Duty Free is renowned for.”

As previously reported, Bahrain Duty Free Shop Complex (BDFSC) achieved a net profit of US$4.8m in Q1 2014, an 11.3% increase on Q1 2013 earnings which reached US$4.3m.

Sales recorded in the period were US$17m ahead of last year by 9% despite flat passenger volumes in the quarter; the airport served 1.5m passengers.
