Bahrain Airport tenders for new terminal
By Kevin Rozario |
Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation has issued a tender for the construction of a new passenger terminal at Bahrain International Airport (BAH) with a submission deadline of Wednesday 1 October at 1.30pm (local time).
The project comprises 170,000sq m including all general civil engineering works, aircraft parking, car parking and other related works and is part of a wider airport modernisation programme.
In January the MoT signed a BD13m ($34.4m) agreement with engineering and design firm Aéroport de Paris Ingérierie (ADPi) for the latter to serve as a consultant for the programme which aims to elevate BAH’s infrastructure and services including the non-aeronautical offer.
When the programme is completed it is expected to increase the airport’s capacity to 13.5m passengers a year from last year’s 7.33m down on the 8.44m in 2012 (see chart).
The chosen contractor will also be responsible for managing the nominated sub-contractor for the baggage handling system, passenger loading bridges and information communication technology.
FUNDING FROM ABU DHABI
The new terminal is described by the MoT as “a significant undertaking in a modernisation programme for Bahrain International Airport” and it is inviting experienced local and international companies – or joint ventures – to submit prequalification documents.
Applicants should note that that funding is coming from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and UAE companies (or JVs comprising a 51% UAE partner), will be given a 10% preferential discretionary scoring uplift.
After review by the MoT and approval of ADFD, shortlisted respondents will then be able to participate in a Request for Proposal (RFP).
Full details of the tender can be downloaded here. Two copies of the pre-qualification documents must be deposited at Bahrain Airport Company at Flat # 11, 1st Floor, Bldg. # 286, Road # 2104, Block # 221 Busaiteen, Muharraq) by Wednesday 1 October 2014 before 13.30hrs.
