This year’s 22nd annual Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup tournament was held last week, attracting 100-plus players to the two-day event.

The popular two-round event was held on 26-27th November 2014, with the first round held at The Address Montgomerie Dubai and the second at the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

Dubai Duty Free reports that there was an excellent atmosphere at the event, along with many prizes for winners in the Men’s, Ladies and Seniors divisions using the individual stableford competition format [a scoring system which basically helps to speed up overall play-Ed].

Reporting on the results, Dubai Duty Free said in a statement: “Producing two superb performances and winning the 22nd edition of the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup, with a two-day total of 89 stableford points was Denise Kennedy.

“After 48 points on day one at Montgomerie, Denise produced another fine performance and 41 points at Dubai Creek on day two to be crowned the 2014 Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup Champion.”

Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz Al Hakim took the award in the Men’s Division, making the most of a home course advantage, firing a superb 46 points on day two, to add to his 39-point total from day one to run out overall champion with 85 points in total. The overall visitor winner was Richard Kennedy with a solid two-day total of 78 points.

FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

In the Ladies Division, Jacqui Barry was the overall local ladies winner, while Nancy Miller was overall ladies visitor winner with a ‘superb’ 77-point total.

Moving on, the overall super senior title was won by Dickie Pyne who produced a fine total of 72 points over the two days. The previous Dubai Creek Captain, Ara Nakhnikian, was the overall senior winner with a superb 2 day total of 78 points, while Dave Cattanach followed his superb day one total of 40 points with 37 on day two to finish runner up in the senior division.

Commenting on the success of the tournament, Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLoughlin said: “This tournament has gone from strength to strength over the years and we are delighted to say that some of our players have been here every year since 1993.

“Thanks to my team at Dubai Duty Free and to The Address Montgomerie Dubai and Dubai Creek Golf Club for making this year’s event so enjoyable.”

Dubai Creek’s Director of Golf Operations Stephen Hubner said: “On behalf of Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club I would like to thank Colm McLoughlin and Dubai Duty Free President George Horan for once again bringing this wonderful event to Dubai Creek.

“It is a real pleasure for us to host such a friendly group of people. You are like a family. We very much hope that we will be able to host the event once again next year.”
