By Doug Newhouse |
A Florida court has ruled that the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company must pay $23.6bn to a smoker’s wife after he died of lung cancer. The tobacco company was also ordered to pay an additional $16.8m in compensation to Cynthia Robinson who first filed her action back in 2008 after her husband died in 1996.RJ Reynold’s Assistant General Counsel Jeffery Raborn has since released a statement, confirming that the tobacco company will mount an appeal against the verdict which ’goes far beyond the realm of reasonableness and fairness, and is completely inconsistent with the evidence presented’, he said.
