Delegates prepare for busy China conference
By Doug Newhouse |
The second China’s Century Conference organised jointly by TFWA and APTRA in Shanghai got underway gently last night, as several hundred conference delegates were transported across town from the Jing An Shangri-La Hotel to the opening cocktail venue at Unico at Three on the Bund.
This offered delegates a good two hours-plus of good natured networking in an informal setting, complete with a Champagne welcome, good food and a very informal atmosphere.
Erik Juul-Mortensen, President of Tax Free World Association welcomed guests with a brief and concise introduction to the event, which was kindly sponsored by the King Power Group (HK), Bally and JTI.
Juul-Mortensen kept his comments brief as usual, wishing attendees a good conference and his welcome was followed by similar warm sentiments expressed by the aforementioned sponsors and Chinese translation from the ever-efficient conference moderator Trevor Lai.
The actual conference begins ‘for real’ today, with a record 380 registered delegates expected to attend the event, according to Juul-Mortensen. This is slightly above the level that attended the first highly praised China’s Century Conference in Beijing two years ago.
The programme today also looks very promising, with addresses expected from Beijing Airport; China Duty Free Group; Shaun Rein, Author and Commentator; King Power Group (HK); Guangzhou Airport; Paul & Shark; Shenzhen Airport/LSTR; Furla’s Gerry Munday; and Edrington’s Ryan Hill.
