International pax up by +3.4% at Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport T1 smallSydney Airport Managing Director and CEO Kerrie Mather has reported that international passenger traffic strengthened at Sydney Airport in August, rising by 3.4%, while overall traffic numbers increased by 1.7% compared to August 2014.

 

In a statement, she said: “International passengers grew 3.4% on the pcp [previous comparable period-Ed] as a result of a 3.1% point increase in load factors. Foreign nationalities grew 4.1% above the pcp, with China (+14.1%), Singapore (+12.2%), India (+11.9%) and Hong Kong (+10.2%) as the top performing nationality markets during the month.

“Australian outbound grew strongly at 3.1% above the pcp, with the Philippines (+58.2%), Indonesia (+7.6%), UAE (+7.3%), New Zealand (+5.6%) and USA (2.7%) experiencing the highest growth from Australian visitors.

 

“Domestic passengers grew 0.8% on the pcp as a result of a 2.9% increase in seat capacity. Both the Qantas and Virgin groups added seats compared to the pcp.”

The top five nationalities using Sydney International Airport in August 2015 and also between January and August 2015.

 

 

 

She added that Qantas has announced it is adding an additional four weekly return flights from Sydney to Hong Kong from late October, adding more than 110,000 seats a year. Additionally, China Southern has announced the expansion of its service from Sydney to Guangzhou, with a third daily operation contributing 209,000 seats annually from 11 December and operate year round.”

 

In addition, Indonesia AirAsia Extra will commence 17 October serving Sydney-Denpasar five times weekly with an A330-300, adding nearly 200,000 seats per annum.
