Alpha LSG’s initiative for Thomson

By Caroline Sargent |

Following the success of its inaugural OMG! Conference and Awards for Monarch Airlines, Alpha LSG has announced that they shall be rolling out a bespoke version of the initiative to Thomson Airways.

Each of the two-day events will be tailored to the airline and serve to both recognize the commercial achievements of cabin crew while forming part of a strategic initiative to help increase inflight sales performance. The ‘fun-packed’ programme will include motivational training, supplier brand experiences and interactive team building activities.

Top sellers at Thomson Airways will be rewarded at the glittering evening awards ceremony, held at Tortworth Court, Gloucestershire, 2-3 December 2014.

Chloe Lerner, General Manager, Inflight Retail Alpha LSG says, “A key part of our role is to help our airline customers to develop a profitable inflight retail offering. As our front-line sales team, cabin crew have a crucial part to play and our ethos is to inspire, motivate and engage. It is all about recognizing cabin crew success, thanking and rewarding them through the OMG! reward and recognition event.

“Our initiative enables us to publicly reward so many cabin crew from each airline, in front of their peers at an event created exclusively for them. In addition to the coveted trophy, crew will win cash prizes for actual sales performance, which makes this event a true celebration of commercial success. It is so much more than a training event.”

Alpha LSG has once again appointed travel retail marketing consultants Appleyard Communications Ltd to help them design and deliver both events and handle all crew communication, trade communication and social media.

With one of the key challenges for all airlines and concessionaires being how to engage and incentivise a large cabin crew population across a wide number of bases, Alpha LSG released a number of ‘golden tickets’ to the event. Thomson Airways crew were invited to submit a ‘selfie video’ explaining why they deserved to attend, for their chance to win a ticket.

‘Supported by a movie-style trailer, social media and base visits from Crew Engagement Specialists, the competition succeeded in attracting considerable interest and participation within the airline, generating much excitement,’ report the Alpha LSG organizers.

David Eastwood, Alpha LSG Crew Engagement Specialist working with Thomson Airways says, “We had an awesome response to the ‘sell yourself’ selfie competition. It really created a lot of buzz and chatter in the crew rooms and some bases even set up ‘create your selfie’ video rooms. The crew are very excited about the OMG! Event and so are we.”
