Barbara Rihl takes the airport to Le Marais in Paris

By Kevin Rozario |

Bags and accessories designer Barbara Rihl has opened its second store in Le Marais, Paris – bringing her airport/travel retail concept to one of the trendiest shopping districts of the French capital.

The store – where shoppers are greeted by Rihl’s ‘flight attendants’ – opened earlier this month. The attendants are part of the permanent concept of the second store. The brand’s designs and travel-related themes “remind you of wonderful dates you have had around the world”, says the designer (left).

Through Rihl’s exclusive travel retail agent, UK-based McG Consultants, the accessories house has built a strong duty free and travel retail business. After launching at the TFWA Singapore show in 2012, Barbara Rihl now has over 40 airport corners at major gateway such as Paris, Nice, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Guam, Thailand, Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur, South Korea and Japan.

The company also has more than 15 inflight listings with carriers including Air France, KLM and Singapore Airlines.

Barbara Rihl says of her concept for DF&TR: “It allows people to travel while dreaming of other countries, imagining a world that is all colour and lightness. My creations remind them of the beautiful things in life.”

Rihl will again be exhibiting at the TFWA show in Singapore where the Travel Retail collection will be displayed. It includes striped or dotted crossover bags, 48hr bags, clutches, passport holders, make-up pouches, suitcase holders and notebook covers.
