DFS hosts piano concert in aid of earthquake victims

DFS Group reports that it held a unique musical event on November 20 for visitors to its T Fondaco dei Tedeschi store in Europe as part of its cultural commitment to the City of Venice and also to raise much-needed support for those still struggling to rebuild their lives following Italy’s devastating earthquakes in recent months.
The retailer reports that world-renowned composer and pianist Michael Nyman performed a solo concert for more than 350 people in an intimate setting on the evening of the Venetian Madonna della Salute festivities.
EVENT HELD AT DFS’ HISTORIC LANDMARK STORE
The event was set in the in the courtyard of the newly renovated Fondaco dei Tedeschi. As such, the retailer stated: “This historic building, with modern design elements introduced by the architect Rem Koolhaas, provided an ideal backdrop to Nyman’s traditional and experimental compositions.
“A prolific creative force and award-winning composer, Nyman’s ‘Water Dance’ music is also featured in artist Fabrizio Plessi’s stunning ‘Under Water’ installation, which is being shown at the T Fondaco dei Tedeschi Event Pavilion until January 15.”
The retailer adds that more than €4,000 ($4,234) was raised through donations at the event, with all proceeds bound for those affected by the terrible earthquakes.
FAMOUS CONCERT TRACKS
Nyman’s solo piano concert featured tracks that have made him famous all over the world, such as The Claim, The Piano, The Diary of a Young Girl (Anne Frank), Gattaca, Wonderland and Prospero’s Book.
For those who are interested, most of the pieces are included in his piano solo albums, The Piano Sings and The Piano Sings 2, released on his own label, MN Records.
