Jos Nijhuis extends his Schiphol Presidency
By Charlotte Turner |
The Schiphol Group Supervisory Board reports that Jos Nijhuis will continue to serve as the company’s President for another two years from 1 January 2017 to 1 January 2019. He has held this position since 1 January 2009.
Ms L.J. Gunning-Schepers, Chair of the Schiphol Group Supervisory Board comments on the decision: “In recent years, Jos Nijhuis has successfully shaped the development and transition of Schiphol Group. The organisation is financially sound and internationally competitive.
“This is essential if we are to keep investing in the continued sustainable growth and strengthening of Mainport Schiphol and its important hub function. For example, foundations were recently laid for the development of a new pier and terminal, the railway and bus station zone and improved accessibility to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
“The focus also lies on tackling the operational sticking points caused by the considerable growth in the number of passengers and the further development of Lelystad Airport.
PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
“In brief, the years ahead will prove very important for Schiphol’s long-term position. The Supervisory Board is therefore pleased that Jos wishes to continue down the route we have taken until 2019.”
Jos Nijhuis said that it has been an ‘honour’ and a ‘pleasure’ to work at Schiphol.
“It is a wonderful organisation,” he added. “We operate in a challenging context and work with the most professional and passionate staff in their field. Together with our many partners, I look forward to continuing to provide a good product while simultaneously preparing Schiphol for the future.”
The Amsterdam Schiphol Airport owner operates airports across the Netherlands; ‘conducts international activities’ and is also involved in airport management overseas.
Schiphol Group owns Rotterdam The Hague Airport and Lelystad Airport, and holds a majority share in Eindhoven Airport.
