ADP hits new record 92.7m passengers in 2014

Aéroports de Paris has reported a new record 92.7m passengers in 2014 (+2.6%), with CDG up +2.8% to 63.8m.
ADP said that besides Paris-Charles de Gaulle’s 63.8m record total, Paris-Orly Airport also broke new ground handling 28.9m (+2.1%) for the very first time. Traffic rose by 4.2% in HY1 and by 1.2% in HY2, with all months – except September when the Air France strike took place – also recording traffic months.
International traffic (excluding Europe) was up by 1.9%, driven by routes to the Middle East (+6.7%); Asia-Pacific (+3.1%); Latin America (+1.4%); North America (+1.4%); and Africa (+0.7%). Only the French Overseas Territories saw a slight drop (-0.2%), while European traffic – excluding French domestic routes at -2.0% – grew strongly (+5.3%);
ADP reports that the number of connecting passengers also rose by 0.6%, with the connecting rate down by -0.8 points to 23.4%.
In addition, passenger traffic at TAV Airports which are 38%-owned by Aéroports de Paris rose by 13.7% in 2014.
By contrast, traffic for December rose by 3.2% to 7.3m passengers compared with December 2013. Paris CDG accounted for 5m (3.9%), while Paris Orly handled 2.3m (+1.5%).
STRONG END TO LAST YEAR
International traffic last December – excluding Europe – grew marginally by 0.1%, with growth in the Middle East (+5.9%) and Asia-Pacific (+3.7%). Other destinations were down, including the French Overseas Territories (-3.4%); Africa (-2.4%); Latin America (-0.7%); and North America (- 0.1%).
European traffic (excluding France) grew strongly again (+7.4%) while domestic air traffic within France was also slightly up (+1.3%). The number of connecting passengers increased by 2.1% while the connecting rate stood at 25.8% – down 0.1 points. Passenger traffic at ADP’s TAV Airports increased by 16.9% in December 2014.
As reported, ADP continues to be committed to investing between €140m and €150m ($167m and $179m) on developing its retail activities between 2011 and 2015. This will include improvements to its food and beverage offer where a tender process is currently in motion.
In the nine months to September, ADP saw its Retail & Services division contract slightly by -0.4% to €705m ($876m) – but retail revenue held up, generating growth of +3.2% to €291m ($362m).
Retail growth was ahead of the +2.4% passenger increase at both Paris airports, producing a general total retail sales rise per passenger of +1.9% to €17.50/$20.92. ADP is expected to report its full-year results in a month’s time.
