Ancillary revenues reach $26bn at Top 10 airlines

Airline reportThe IdeaWorksCompany has once again compiled its top airlines ranked by ancillary revenues for 2015, with the ten largest estimated to have generated nearly $26bn in 2015.

 

 

These revenues do not relate only to retail sales onboard and include all extras, such as baggage fees, food and beverage and other off and onboard sales, as well as retail sales onboard , with many figures provided by the airlines, with others estimated.

THE ‘BILLION DOLLAR CLUB’

IdeaWorksCompany describes this group of airlines as ‘a billion-dollar club’ with its members annual ancillary revenue ranging from just over $1bn to $6.2bn – the latter of which is United Airline’s total.

 
The ‘top performer per passenger is Spirit, at $51.80 per customer’, according to the research company, with the same airline topping the list for revenue share, at 43% of total sales.

The number two was Jet2.com with $50.44, followed by Allegiant with $49.94; United $44.16; Qantas $42.70; Korean Air $38.35; Virgin Atlantic $36.08; AirAsia X $35.01; Alaska Air Group $34.25; and Wizz Air $32.74.

 

 

UNITED, DELTA AND AIR FRANCE LEAD ANCILARY…

The top 10 in terms of total ancillary revenue was head by United with $6.1bn, followed by American $4.7bn; Delta $3.7bn; Air France/KLM $2.1bn; Southwest $2.1bn; Ryanair $1.7bn; Lufthansa Group $1.4bn; easyJet $1.4bn; Qantas $1.1bn; and Alaska Air Group $1.0bn.
