Beach-to-street style for Maui Jim’s new collection

By Caroline Sargent |

Making a splash into Spring 2015, Maui Jim is releasing a new collection of ‘beach-to-street’ sunglass styles for men and has scooped the Reader’s Choice award for Sunglass Company of the Year, as voted by opticians, optometrists and opthalmologists in the United States.

The new Maui Jim collection features seven high performance designs and will be exhibited at IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas (22-25 March) at booth 1703.

Available in a wide range of materials and styles, each pair of PolarizedPlus2 sunglasses makes a statement, some with a decidedly retro flair:

For large full-metal styling, new Castaway (Style #187) dresses up this dramatic rectangular frame with a distinctive wood grain Monel metal pattern and comes in Dark Gunmetal, Matte Chocolate and Matte Black.

Designed for medium-sized faces, Hang 10 (Style #296 – pictured top right) is named after the gutsy surfing manoeuvre where the back of a surfboard is covered by water allowing the surfer to hang 10 toes over the front of the board. With distinctively different front and back styling and the Monel metal square front with double-bridge styling, it offers a classic retro look. Available in Gunmetal, Bronze or Burgundy.

With the look of Hang 10, but made of a single, lightweight material is Flat Island (Style #705).The island profile of Oahu is emulated in these injected nylon sunglasses that feature one of the flattest brow lines in the Maui Jim portfolio. Perfect for medium-sized faces, the fixed saddle-style nose bridge is embedded with rubber pads for stability and comfort. Hints of faded colour appear along the temples in Blue Stripe, Brown Stripe or Olive Stripe.

For small-to-mid-sized oval or oblong faces that lend themselves to rectangular sunglasses, Hidden Pinnacle (Style #298 – pictured left) offers a classic design.

The lightweight acetate frame with saddle-style nose bridge and seamless detailing creates a sleek look and is available in Gloss Black, Dark Tortoise or Tokyo Tortoise.

For wider faces with narrow eyes and narrow nose bridges, Legacy (Style #183) is a high-performance style. The durable nylon frame wraps around the face for full coverage from the sun while Maui Jim’s signature spring hinges securely hold the sunglasses in place. Legacy comes in Matte Black, Rootbeer or Translucent Grey.

Taking a dive into the future is Silversword (Style #701). A double-bridge nylon aviator that’s a throwback to 1970s celebrity style, these lightweight, oversize nylon sunglasses have strong brow detailing and unique colour variations that include Brown with Iridescent Aqua, Olive Stripe, Matte Tortoise and Black and Grey Tortoise.

Rounding out the men’s styles for Spring 2015 is Free Dive (Style #200). A chunky aviator, with wide nose bridge, solid frame and broad temples, these sunglasses make a big statement. Offered with embedded rubber nose pads for stability and comfort, and in classic colourways of Gloss Black, Matte Tortoise or Translucent Grey.

READER’S CHOICE AWARD

Maui Jim has revealed it has been voted Reader’s Choice Sunglass Company of the Year and Women’s Sport Sunglass Brand of the Year by US opticians, optometrists and opthalmologists.

Vision Monday and 20/20 Magazine announced their selections in the sixth annual EyeVote Readers’ Choice Awards – a special survey aimed at identifying readers’ favourite products and companies of the year.

Optical retailers and eye care practitioner readers of the two Jobson Medical Information publications were asked to identify their preferred products in 10 categories: sunglasses, optical frames, spectacle lenses, contact lenses, optical equipment, diagnostic equipment, practice management software, EHR, optical app and online ordering.

Selected companies were chosen based on both brand and company choices supplied by readers.
