Bowmore saves the best till last with final Black 1964 cask
By Charlotte Turner |
Bowmore Islay Single Malt Whisky has announced the release of its fifth and final edition of the exclusive Black Bowmore 1964 distillation.
Set to launch globally in travel retail in November, ‘Black Bowmore 50 Year Old, The Last Cask’ has spent 50 years maturing in Bowmore’s No. 1 Vaults, ‘the world’s oldest Scotch maturation warehouse’, according to Bowmore. This makes it the most aged expression of this series.
“Black Bowmore 50 Year Old, The Last Cask to be rediscovered takes its name from the intense maturation in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, which has imparted a deep, black pearl darkness to the colour of the whisky,” says Bowmore [part of the Beam Suntory portfolio].
Black Bowmore was first distilled on 5 November 1964 at the Bowmore distillery on Islay and after four releases – the first in 1993 and the fourth in 2007 – one last cask was rediscovered in the ‘darkest, coolest corner of the No.1 Vaults’.
As only 159 bottles of Black Bowmore 50 Year Old will be available internationally, the company expects this release to become a highly collectable addition to the series.
