Bruichladdich to show off ’The Laddie Eight’

By Doug Newhouse |

Vatting the maltRémy Cointreau-owned Hebridean Distiller Bruichladdich is to exhibit its latest travel retail exclusive expression ‘The Laddie Eight’ at this April’s IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas (4-6 April).

This latest unpeated expression is the latest offering to travel retail from Head Distiller Adam Hannett who has aimed to preserve the ‘elegant, floral notes of the vibrant young spirit’ with this vatting, while reflecting the signature salty, citrus tang, which is special to Bruichladdich.

The Laddie EightThe whisky has been matured in a warehouse for eight years near the shores of Loch Indaal where it has taken on the complex notes of apple, pear and subtle layers of oak.

50% ABV BOTTLING STRENGTH

The new offering is also bottled in-house and over strength at the unusually high 50% ABV.

However, the company says that the whisky’s flavours open up when water is added , so revealing soft fruits and notes of sweet, malt sugar.

The company adds: “Bruichladdich never chill filter or add artificial colours to homogenise their whiskies, so you can expect subtle variations between bottles to occur over the years. It is all part of the unique Laddie experience.

“The fiercely independent ethos of Bruichladdich defies the trend towards industrialisation and automation in distillation.

“The company is justifiably proud of its status as the biggest private employer on Islay, where an enthusiastic team of 85 men and women create whiskies by hand. The quality of spirit they produce is extraordinary.”

This new line will be exclusively available in travel retail from April 2016 and can be found on the Rémy Cointreau Travel Retail Americas (booth 13) at this April’s IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas in Orlando.
