Top Le Clos World Record Sale (2)Dubai International Airport-based fine wine retailer Le Clos has recently sold a very rare collection of Fine and Rare Macallan single malt Scotch whisky for $0.5m.

The retailer owned by Maritime & Mercantile International (MMI) ‘claims’ that this transaction has set ’another new record’ for the largest single sale of its kind in the travel retail sector, having surpassed ‘the previous record set earlier in the year by Le Clos itself’.

According to the retailer, this latest sale included a selection of The Macallan Fine and Rare spanning from 1937 through to 1990, in addition to ‘the highly sought after’ The Macallan Golden Age of Travel which features a very rare Macallan, distilled in 1937 and housed in one of 48 specially created Lalique decanters.

As reported previously, Le Clos ‘is proud’ to have been entrusted by The Macallan distillery to be one of the few partners to retail the Fine and Rare Collection globally.

The latest buyer of this rare assortment was apparently an Asian collector and this transaction surpasses Le Clos’ previous record-breaking $361,000 sale in January 2016, featuring some of The Macallan’s Fine and Rare Collection of whiskies, with vintages ranging from 1938 to 1974.

The vintages included in the sale included the following: Macallan Fine and Rare 1937; 1940; 1947; 1950; 1952; 1956; 1960; 1961; 1963; 1965; 1967; 1969; 1988; 1990; and the Macallan Select reserve 1946.
