Major structural shuffle for Mondelez WTR

By Charlotte Turner |

Mondelez WTR is implementing a new organisational structure, moving from a regional to a ‘retailer-focused’ model, built around two teams; one for Regional Accounts and one for Global.

Andreas Fehr, Managing Director at Mondelez WTR says: “Travel retail has always been an immensely dynamic channel, but the pace of change in recent years – particularly the level of retailer consolidation – has been unprecedented.

“Having carefully assessed our needs, and those of our partners, our leadership team concluded that our travel retail business would be better served by the move from a purely regional model to a retailer-focused approach.

To support the creation of the new Regional Accounts team, Mondelez has appointed Thomas Bodenmann – currently Regional Director Europe – to the role of Head of Regions.

“We are confident that by identifying early the realities of a transformed operating environment, Mondelez WTR being the leading confectionery supplier, has positioned itself to lead the next wave of category and industry growth.”

Mondelez says the new structure should consolidate ‘regional understanding’, within Mondelez WTR, of needs and trends and allow the company to focus more keenly on consultation at a local level. Mondelez also hopes to create more engaging and relevant regional campaigns based on local shopper insight.

For its global partners, Mondelez believes the new business model will bring about the improved application of the company’s global understanding of confectionery best-practice and trends.

To support the creation of the new Regional Accounts team, Mondelez has appointed Thomas Bodenmann – currently Regional Director Europe – to the role of Head of Regions.

Bodenmann has been with Mondelez for 15 years during which time he has built up a deep category understanding in various Sales and Marketing roles, says the confectionery giant.

Rajiv Malhotra – Senior Business Development Manager, Lucas Roberts – Senior Business Development Manager and Peter Max – Senior Business Development Manager will all report to Bodenmann.

Taking leadership of the Global Accounts team will be Jaya Singh – currently Regional Director Middle East & Asia Pacific – in the new role of Head of Global Accounts. Jaya has played a key part in Mondelez WTR’s 20-year history and has been one of the highest profile champions of the travel retail industry in the Asia region, as evidenced by his current role as the President of Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA).

Singh heads up a team of: Dominique Scheers – Senior Business Development Manager; Carlos Granados Moyano – Senior Business Development Manager and David Biedermann – Senior Business Development Manager.

Ivo Knuesel – formerly Regional Manager Americas – will be retained within the Mondelez WTR organization, taking on a new role as Category Development and Sales Planning Manager.

Alongside the changes to the sales organisation, Mondelez WTR will adopt the same retailer-focused model in all support functions: customer marketing, business support, supply chain. These changes are effective from 1st August 2015.
