Montblanc moves from pen to paper to mobile device

Montblanc-Augmented-Paper-leadMontblanc is blurring the lines between the handwritten and digital realms with its new Montblanc Augmented Paper conept, which allows for written notes and sketches to be transferred from page to mobile device at the click of a button.

Once on the device, the content can be edited, shared with others and translated into digital text. Designed as a leather envelope organizer, the new Augmented Paper contains a notebook and a ‘StarWalker’ writing instrument.

The StarWalker ‘pen’ which accompanies the Augmented Paper has been specially crafted to include custom-made technology to be exclusively used for this new product.

“The innovative technology offers best-in-class handwriting recognition in 12 languages including English, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian and Chinese, so that notes written by hand can be seamlessly transferred to a mobile device and translated into digital text for searching, editing and sharing,” says Montblanc.

The Augmented Paper also allows for the ‘easy organization’ of each document in one place. Thousands of notes can be tagged and searched for when using the Montblanc Hub; an application that also features a note-taking function which can be used independently from the Augmented Paper.

Files can be transferred and notes edited when the Augmented Paper is connected, the app can also be used to create digital notes when it is not connected.

“Nothing compares to the sensation of writing on paper, but in a digital world being able to share work and thoughts digitally has become essential,” explains Jérôme Lambert CEO Montblanc International.

“Augmented Paper bridges these two worlds with a simple and highly functional product that gives its owners the freedom to unleash their creativity by using a writing instrument and paper, rather than forcing themselves to express thoughts and ideas with mouse and keyboard.”

Montblanc Augmented Paper features a black leather envelope that includes the electronic digitizer, a StarWalker writing instrument, a notebook with lined paper, a USB cable to charge the device, three ballpoint refills and tweezers to exchange the refills.

Montblanc Augmented Paper Black is available from October 2016 in Europe, the United States, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea, and from November 2016 also in China, Japan, Taiwan, Mexico and UAE.

For Harrods there will be a pre-launch starting from September 22nd, followed by a Special Harrods Edition making its debut on October 1st 2016.
