Tyko extends Hippie Chic and Breo as sales boom
By Kevin Rozario |
Duty free and travel retail supplier Tyko Brands has diversified its successful Hippie Chic and Breo brands by extending them into accessories and children’s sunglasses respectively.
At the TFWA show in Cannes, the company revealed a new line of jewellery including statement pieces plus other accessory items, such as scarves and sunglasses, retailing from £16 to £30 ($25 to $46) ready for the spring/summer season.
The inflight brand Hippie Chic is expected to close 2015 with over a million units sold and Tyko will capitalise on the huge demand next year by taking it into the e-commerce channel for the first time, and more than doubling the DF&TR offer from nine skus to just under 30.
Martin Lovatt, Global Travel Retail Director says: “Hippie Chic is outstandingly successful for Tyko Brands but we know we cannot stand still, hence the decision to take the brand to the next level.”
BREO SEES +75% GROWTH
Meanwhile Breo has seen a +75% increase in sales in the past year with 20 new locations in the Americas, 18 in Europe, 10 in the Middle East and seven in Asia Pacific. “It’s been an aggressive 12 months and we have some phenomenal opportunities moving forward,” says Lovatt pointing to ground stores, border shops and cruise ships as channels for expansion.
In sunglasses, Breo has gone from 70 skus to over 100 with the arrival of polarised lenses for the first time allowing the introduction of a sports collection retailing for £35-£45. A new kid’s collection has also been added for £15-£20. Luxury lines in the main collection will retail from £40-£45.
The Breo line of kid’s sunglasses has 12 skus and Lovatt says: “We use exactly the same specification for the kid’s lines as the adults; they’re all toughened polycarbonate for example even though the equivalent adult pairs range from £22-£30.”
