DXB first airport with full smartwatch service

By Kevin Rozario |

Dubai smartwatchAmsterdam-based mobile agency, M2mobi, claims that Dubai International Airport (DXB) has become the first airport in the world to offer a full gamut of smartwatch services thanks to a jointly-developed app for Android and Apple OS users.

M2Mobi created the smartwatch app for DXB operator and owner, Dubai Airports, which is said to “enrich the experience of passengers”. It integrates with the airport’s existing smartphone app which includes bookmarking, live alerts and flight sharing capabilities as well as personalised journey planning. Details of duty free and travel retail shopping and dining, plus interactive maps, are also available.

With the smartwatch app, a single tap on the wrist shows up-to-date information on flights, from arrival and departure times to terminal, gate and baggage information.

M2mobi states that it has focused on the stress points for travellers in developing the app. “The result is a smartwatch app that mainly focuses on functional aspects; the app shows no more than necessary to support the users during their visit at the airport. We’ve managed to design every element in such a way that the app matches perfectly with the user experience as initially conceived in the mobile apps for iOS and Android,” says the company.
