Qatar Duty Free HIA CNY 2016A replica Chinese pagoda and pavilion now occupies the prime location inside Hamad International Airport (HIA) where Qatar Duty Free (QDF) and UnionPay are welcoming passengers to a Chinese New Year celebration, complete with special festival discounts of up to 20%, plus spending rewards and a range of new promotions.

Qatar Duty Free and UnionPay have created a striking red and gold 180sq m pavilion behind HIA’s ‘iconic Lamp Bear’ in the airport departures hall, where travellers are being invited in by enticing red lanterns and staff wearing traditional Chinese costumes welcoming visitors in Mandarin

The duty free operator said in a statement that passengers can now find tempting gift ideas once they enter the elaborate Chinese pagoda, with these designed especially for the CNY festival, as well as for those travellers who simply want to join in the customary celebrations.

The retailer adds that savings of up to 20% are available on QDF fragrances, cosmetics, skincare, confectionery, luxury watches, fine jewellery, and other gift items in the Chinese pavilion.

Those customers buying goods worth QR1000 ($274) or above with a UnionPay credit card, will also receive the added bonus of a traditional Chinese red envelope containing a QR100 QDF gift voucher. These vouchers will also be distributed to passengers in HIA by Qatar Duty Free staff throughout the Chinese festive season.

The generous space at HIA is allowing some ambitious promotions to really show off the retail offers in many areas.

Commenting on these latest new initiatives, Keith Hunter, Senior Vice President Qatar Duty Free, said: “Chinese New Year is a time to revel in holiday festivities, observe traditions and enjoy family reunions. Qatar Duty Free recognises the importance of this festival for many of our customers travelling through HIA during the seasonal period.

“With this beautiful pavilion we are telling Qatar Duty Free’s own story through Chinese New Year and providing our customers with exclusive promotions across an extensive range of gift items.”

The retailer adds that Chinese New Year discounts of up to 10% are also available on brands in selected boutiques in HIA and it says passengers can now select from a wide variety of duty free products ‘at amazing prices’, including promotions from Tiffany, TAG Heuer, Chopard, and Bulgari.

Meanwhile, popular products available within the Chinese pavilion include Godiva chocolates, Prada perfume, La Prairie skin care, Swarovski jewellery, Harrods bags and Marmalade Market gift items.

In addition, Qatar Duty Free says it is important that the Qatar-China 2016 Year of Culture programme recognises the strong relationship between both countries and it reflects China’s powerful cultural identity and heritage through these and other events and exhibitions in Qatar.
