Queen Alia Int Airport2 smallQueen Alia International Airport (QAIA) reports that it has registered the highest August passenger numbers in its history with numbers up +5.6% to 830,001 compared to 785,685 in the same month last year.

This is the second month in a row that Jordanian company Airport International Group (AIG) has reported growth and it is timely, coming ahead of next month’s MEADFA Conference being held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre next to the Dead Sea in Jordan between November 23-24, 2015.

Airport management says that the increases are largely attributed to leisure and expatriates travelling more regularly during the high summer season, although passenger numbers inthe first eight months were actually down by -2.3% to 4,827,728.

Back during August, QAIA also handled 7,168 aircraft movements – a -1% decrease on August 2014 – along with 8,445 tons of cargo, a 10.7% rise on the same month in 2014.

Similarly, YTD cargo traffic figures increased by 8.4% increase to reach 65,251 tons as opposed to the same period during 2014.

“We’re delighted to have achieved a new milestone with QAIA registering the highest August passenger statistics in the airport’s history,” said Airport International Group CEO, Kjeld Binger.

“This unprecedented success was mainly led by the expansion of QAIA’s network, as well as an increase in passenger traffic to and from the Gulf, Turkish, Libya, Iraqi and European countries markets. On that note, we eagerly look forward to setting new milestones and exceeding benchmarks at QAIA,”

Meanwhile, pre-registration for the MEADFA Conference 2015 remains open until 5 November. The registration fee is €820/$919 (€720/$807 for MEADFA/TFWA members) will full details available at the following link: http://www.meadfa.com/conference/pre-registration/
