Stockholm May pax +2m as fashion sale begins

Stockholm Arlanda Airport handled 2,053,921 passengers in the month of May compared to May 2014, with traffic to its busiest destination in Copenhagen falling for the fifth straight month due to more direct routes established by airlines from Stockholm.
The number of international passengers grew by 3% to almost 1.6m, although domestic destination passengers fell to just under 500,000 (-4%). This was mostly blamed on the SAS labour dispute at the end of the month, when almost 100 departures were cancelled.
“We can see that the ever expanding range of direct routes available from Stockholm Arlanda reduces the need to change planes in Copenhagen,” says Kjell-Åke Westin, Airport Director at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
NEW AND EXPANDED SERVICES
The airport should also benefit from the doubling in frequencies of Norwegian’s non-stop service to Dubai, which has operated at the airport since 2008. From October 26 this year, there will be one flight every day of the week except Saturday.
More new services have been unveiled this year within SAS’ winter 2015/16 programme which will include a non-stop three times a week service to Münich during the skiing season beginning next February, plus increased departures to Manchester, Las Palmas, Barcelona, Thessaloniki, Prague and Nice.
A summer service to Budapest, Malta and Faro will also continue during the winter and the summer only services to Malaga, Palma and Alicante will now be operated all year round.
AIRPORT-WIDE SUMMER FASHION SALE
Several of the airport’s fashion shops are also engaging in the latest ’Summer Sale’ where typically offer up to 30% off selected items. Stores participating in the sale that are located in Terminal 5 include Ralph Lauren (pictured), Hugo Boss, Shirts, Fashion & Accessories, Fashion Store (F26) and Michael Kors (F26). Other stores include the Fashion Store in Terminal 4 and Airport Fashion Men and Airport Fashion Women in the SkyCity complex.
The ten largest destinations from Stockholm Arlanda in May 2015 were: Copenhagen, London, Oslo, Helsinki, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Gothenburg, Paris, Berlin, Malmö and Luleå. In the same month the number of landings at Stockholm Arlanda fell two per cent compared to May 2014.
