In October 2014, international traffic demand – measured by revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs), which are calculated by multiplying the number of revenue-paying passengers onboard by the distance travelled – for Brazilian airlines grew for the eighth consecutive month posting an increase of 3.5%.

 

However, the growth is less impressive than the previous month. As reported, in September 2014, international traffic demand (again measured in RPKs) for Brazilian airlines grew for the seventh consecutive month, up 8.7% compared with the same month of 2013.

 

In October, Brazilian airline GOL recorded an impressive 27.3% increase in demand for international air transport of passengers YOY, while TAM’s demand was flat (+0.2%).

 

The number of international passengers reached 558,500 in October, an increase of 8.3% YOY. This is the largest amount of passengers on Brazilian carriers to be registered in the month of October in the last ten years.

 

Between January to October 2014 the number of passengers transported increased (cumulatively) by 4.8% YOY.
