LAX +5.8% to 7.1m as international up +11%

Los Angeles airportLos Angeles International Airport (LAX) handled a total 7.1m passenger in August, a 5.83% increase on the same month in 2014, as international traffic rose by 10.8% to 2m.

 

The year-to-date January to August passenger total rose by 4.6% to 50,132,728, with domestic traffic up by 3.71% to 36.1m and international passengers up 7.03% to 13.9m.

 

International passengers by terminal in August were as follows: Tom Bradley International: 1,231,845 (+17.93%); Terminal 2: 416,325 (-11.10%); Terminal 5: 161,609 (+80.44%); Terminal 7: 128,494 (+1.42%); Terminal 4: 63,829 (-17.99%).

LAX is the fifth busiest airport in the world and second busiest in the United States, offering 692 daily flights to 85 domestic cities and 928 weekly nonstop flights to 67 cities in 34 countries on 59 passenger air carriers.

 

Meanwhile, LA/Ontario International Airport saw its traffic increase by 2.26% in August to 368,631 passengers, thanks to robust demand for travel to Mexico. AeroMexico and Volaris served 17,549 passengers in August, with both carriers doubling their numbers compared to a year ago [The ownership of LA/Ontario is shortly expected to be being taken out of LAWA’s hands and given back to the city of Ontario-Ed].

 

Commenting on the LA/Ontario passenger progress, Airport Manager Jess Romo said: “Our summer traffic numbers have been positive and we will continue to support the region’s travel needs as we head toward final quarter of 2015. Our International numbers in particular are remaining strong through the first eight months of the year.”
