Carlos Rosa to take on new Dufry role

Jose Carlos Rosa, Dufry’s COO of Region America II is to take on a new management role after handing over to Gustavo Magalhães Fagundes.

Dufry has advised that Gustavo Magalhães Fagundes is to join the retail giant as COO of Region America II from 1 January 2015, effectively succeeding Jose Carlos Rosa, who steps down on 31 December 2014.

Rosa will continue to be a member of the senior Dufry management, although the company says his ‘new role will be announced in due time’. Rosa has been a dynamic, successful, impressive and pivotal figure in helping to build Dufry’s Brazilian and Bolivian businesses for more than nine years.

In a statement, the company acknowledged his important contribution: “Dufry would like to thank Jose Carlos Rosa for his valued contribution in leading the America II business during these years.

“With his dedication and personal engagement, he has been a key person in developing the region to where it stands today. Thus, Dufry is very pleased to have been able to retain Mr Rosa as part of the Dufry management.”

EXTENSIVE MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE

Meanwhile, Dufry says that Gustavo Magalhães Fagundes holds a degree in business administration and management from EAESP/Fundação Getúlio Vargas in São Paulo, a master in international economics and management from Bocconi University in Milan, an executive MBA from AmBev Corporate University, as well as a general management degree from Harvard Business School.

Before joining Dufry, Magalhães Fagundes was also Area Director at Odebrecht Transport, reporting to the CEO. He will bring 10 years of experience from the consumer and retail industries following his previous positions held in Brazilian travel retail, as well as AmBev. In addition, he also worked at Accenture in the Strategic Services and Retail Services unit.

Julián Díaz, CEO of the Dufry Group said the company is ‘very pleased’ Magalhães Fagundes is joining the management team: “He has extensive experience in retail and will contribute to the further development of Dufry in Brazil and South America. We wish him a warm welcome and we are looking forward to working with Gustavo.”

There are few Dufry executives who are more experienced on the operational side than Jose Carlos Rosa, right.
