PVM broadens travel retail offer with new launches at TFWA
By Naomi Chadderton |
Perfetti Van Melle (PVM) will put new flavours, formats and even a move beyond confectionery in the spotlight at TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, as it unveils its latest innovation pipeline for Mentos and Chupa Chups.
The sugar confectionery specialist will preview four concepts developed around key travel retail consumption moments spanning refreshment, snacking and sharing, gifting and impulse purchasing.
Flavour is a major thread, particularly as PVM responds to growing interest in sour profiles. Mentos Jumbo Roll Sour Tones gives the familiar roll format a fruit-led, intensely sour twist, building on the recent launch of Mentos Gum Sour, while Mentos Mints Lemon adds a lighter, zesty option to the brand’s on-the-go refreshment offer.
Chupa Chups is also leaning into sour flavours with its new travel retail-exclusive Sour Bites range. Available as colourful layered Sour Bites or striped Sour Filled Bites with a centre filling, both come in pouch bags designed for snacking and sharing during the journey.
Perhaps the most unexpected launch sees Chupa Chups step outside confectionery with a range of sleeping masks. Available in panda, koala and leopard designs, the masks combine travel comfort and gifting appeal with the brand’s playful identity, as PVM explores further lifestyle extensions and travel retail-exclusive concepts.
The new launches join products introduced over the past year including Chupa Chups Mega Chups Sour, Mentos Gum Sour and Fruit-tella Sharing Bags, which PVM said have generated strong customer interest.
Beyond product, the company continues to invest in shopper experiences and location-specific displays intended to boost visibility and impulse purchasing. Its Chupa Chups shop-in-shop at Barcelona El Prat Airport, created with Avolta, is performing well, with PVM exploring how elements of the concept could translate to other locations on a smaller scale.
“Refreshment, snacking and sharing continue to be important consumption moments throughout the journey,” said Michiel Goedvolk, GTR Director at Perfetti Van Melle. “At the same time, travellers, especially younger consumers, are looking for new flavours, surprising products. Our Cannes line-up responds to those needs, while our display solutions and customer-specific retail executions will help our partners create more engaging stores and stronger visibility for our brands.”
Perfetti Van Melle will exhibit at Green Village M59 during TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, taking place from 27 September to 1 October.
