Alfarag Duty Free has inaugurated a duo of newly renovated retail stores at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport’s (ADD) Terminal 2.

Combined, the two stores stretch approximately 13,000 square feet – this includes the largest duty-free store in Ethiopia, according to Alfarag.

The stores feature a sleek design and carry a curated selection of globally recognised brands, bringing to life a refreshed shopping experience for international travellers passing through the Africa hub.

Great attention has been paid to the details, from the store layout to the product selection to not only create impactful commercial spaces, but to make a statement about ‘Ethiopia’s rising stature on the global stage’.

Indeed, Alfarag describes the stores as ‘a celebration of modern Ethiopia, built by a local company with deep roots and global aspirations’.

The inauguration took place on 19 June.

The company is in growth mode and says this latest investment is ‘the first of many bold steps’ in its goal to ‘elevate experiences and ensure that Ethiopia shines on the international travel retail map’.

The stores carry a curated selection of globally recognised brands.

Alfarag Duty Free was established in 1932, making it Ethiopia’s first private duty-free retailer and has been operating duty free stores at Bole International Airport since 2003.

Beyond the airport, the company also manages a network of local market, duty-paid retail stores across Ethiopia, for which it provides high-quality personal care products and lifestyle essentials to Ethiopian consumers.
