AAHK rent relief for retail and F&B tenants continues through March

AAHK has extended its relief package to support the airport community amid the prolonged impact of Covid-19 on aviation.

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has extended fee waivers and concession policies covering its airport community for two months until the end of March.

The operator’s current package of support, announced in November, was due to conclude at the end of January.

As before, rental relief for retail and catering tenants will apply and lease payments for terminal tenants operating lounges and offices have been reduced.

It is the latest announcement from the airport authority to support its tenants and service providers after first introducing rent relief in February 2020.

“Most of the shops and restaurants in the terminal have suspended business and their rental is waived,” AAHK said in a statement. “The base rent is also waived for those that remain open to provide essential services.”

In addition, parking charges for idle passenger aircraft and airbridge fees have been waived and passenger aircraft landing charges have been reduced alongside those relating to ramp handling, maintenance and airside vehicles.

Fee exemptions have also been applied to terminal licensees operating ancillary passenger services, commercial services counters and cross-border transport operators, and concessions granted on fees for aviation support services such as into-plane fuelling, aircraft maintenance and inflight catering services.

AAHK adds that the relief measures will be adjusted accordingly in relation to the changing circumstances.

Hong Kong International Airport handled 1.4 million passengers in 2021, a year-on-year decline of -84.7%, hit by entry restrictions linked to the pandemic.
